Jefferson Academy PTO Meeting Minutes
January 9th, 2020 Those in attendance: Sydney Bowman, Amy Crofts, Elisha Hurlburt, Shawna Wichtoski, Kevin DeYoung, Cassi Todd, Terra White, Amy Oswald, Carrie Petersen, Kourtney Dalley Welcome: Amy Oswald, PTO President Penny Wars: Penny Wars is a fundraiser that we as the PTO are joining up with the student council to do. It will be held during the week of January 27th – 31st. Grades will compete to earn the most points and we will be awarding prizes to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place grades. There will be jugs placed under the PTO bulletin board marked with each grade. Pennies will be positive 1 point for you grade and all silver coins or bills will be negative points according to their worth. All money raised from the Penny Wars will be going to the local nonprofit A New Beginning Animal Rescue. Sydney has been in contact with them and they are excited to have us donate to them. They offered to come and do a presentation for the school, but after talking with Nicole we are deciding to not do that. Sydney will be making the flyer and have it ready to go out to students by next Friday (1/17). Book Fair: Book Fair will be held over Parent Teacher Conferences which is the week of February 10th – 13th. This Book Fair has a jungle theme and Amy is going to talk with Nicole and see if it would be possible to have the students make decorations in class. Cassi will have flyers ready to go home by January 31st and she will be including a coupon on them for the Book Fair (10% off $25 and 20% off $50). The schedule for Book Fair will go as follows: Monday February 10th:
Fun Run: We will be having a committee meeting sometime at the end of January or beginning of February. We will also be starting collecting t-shirt information sooner. Amy has left over copies of the paper from last year and so she is just going to use that instead of waiting for Boosterthon to send her new ones. The money we raise from Fun Run will be going to help replace the computers in the school. They haven’t been working due to being outdated and we are hoping to help Mrs. Jones by relieving some of the financial stress that comes with replacing all the computers. We have also been trying to come up with some more unique incentives to help motive the students to earn more money. Ideas that were presented at the meeting include: Subzero assembly, technology day, recess game day or read-a-thon. We also want to be more inclusive of other teachers with the incentive of reaching our monetary goal. Next PTO Meeting: February 5th, 2020 @ 7 pm in the school library. (This meeting was changed due to the conflict with Parent Teacher Conferences and Book Fair)
